Three IT parks in TN to be opened by year end

Chennai: Three Information Technology parks, being developed by the Tamil Nadu Government in Tier II cities, would be inaugurated before the end of this year, state IT Minister Poongothai said on Tuesday.

"Tamil Nadu is one of the few states in the country to have lot of IT parks. Currently work is on nine IT parks in places like Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore and Hosur," she told reporters.

The Tiruchirapalli IT Park which is being set up at a cost of Rs 14.23 crore, Tirunelveli (Rs 13) crore and Madurai IT Park (Rs 22 crore) were in advanced stages. "These IT parks will be inaugurated before the end of this year", she said.

ELCOT (Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu) is promoting the nine IT parks in Tier I and II cities. These are being set up under Public Private Partnership mode in Tier II cities.

A large number of companies had expressed interest in the Tiruchirappalli IT park, she said they had recently completed a roadshow to promote the IT Parks.

Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli and Madurai would have mini-buildings of about 50,000 sq ft each. Tiruchirapalli park is filling up fast and nearly about 32,000 sq ft had already been reserved while for Tirunelveli 9,000 sq ft had been booked, she said.

ELCOT to rent out IT space by October

The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has almost completed the structural works in its building in Navalpattu IT Park where 50,000 sq feet IT space is to be provided to clients.

Already booked

About 20,000 sq feet space has already been booked for four companies: Integra Software Services, OKS Pre-press services, Scientific Publishing Services and Sadhana Software, official sources told The Hindu.

Though ELCOT originally intended to provide the IT space with ‘plug and play' facility in the building, ‘warm shell' space was subsequently considered ideal due to varying requirements of clients. Electricity, air-conditioning and automation facilities will be created and with these the companies would adapt the working environment to their design.

The remaining work constituting 40 per cent of the building project constitutes construction of side wall, plastering, fixing of electrical fittings, erection of lift and false ceiling works.

ELCOT is certain about finishing the plastering work by the middle of next month.

“By October end, we would be renting out the space to clients for carrying out interior works. Companies housed in the built-up space are likely to commence operations from January or February next year,” a senior official said.

The ELCOT has been in the recent weeks following up the proposal it had submitted earlier to the Government for strengthening of the existing 100 feet road to a distance of about six kilometres that links the IT Park with the Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway. The work is expected to be carried out by the State Highways department.

The proposed 80-feet road linking the IT Park with the Tiruchi-Thanjavur Highway via Cholamadevi will be taken up for implementation after a couple of years, it is learnt.

Work on creation of golf course and residential apartments in the IT Park area as vital components of the full-fledged eco-system will commence once the companies occupy the entire 50,000 sq feet of IT space and start operations, sources said, adding that the ELCOT would opt for public-private partnership model on a BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) basis to create the residential infrastructure.

IT parks in Tiruchi, Madurai and Tirunelveli will be ready in next 8-12 weeks

The Information Technology (IT) Parks and ELCOT owned 50,000 sq.ft building inside the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Tiruchi, Madurai and Tirunelveli will be ready in the next 8 to 12 weeks time, said P.W.C. Davidar, IT Secretary on Wednesday.

Talking to The Hindu, he said that it would take some more months for the Hosur IT Park to get going as the work order was given recently and the work would commence soon. The IT department was racing against time to complete the ELCOT buildings including infrastructure work for entire SEZs at Tiruchi, Madurai and Tirunelveli.

“We have created the right kind of physical infrastructure and are looking for both big and smaller units to occupy it. We will give them a minimum of one acre of land. We have many engineering colleges around these places and they are doing well and hence finding the right firm will not be a problem,” he said.

Santhosh Babu, Managing Director, Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), said that a road show will be held in the city during the first week of September to market IT parks as well as ELCOT incubation centres at SEZ. Around 400 CEOs have been invited for the road show.

“Henceforth, land allotment would be an easy process, since ELCOT has been given the guidelines to do it on a fast track basis. The entire process can be completed within two or three days. Those firms having Rs.1 crore turnover or Rs.50 lakh export turnover can ask for a minimum of one acre of land,” Mr. Babu said.

IT park to be opened by November

Work on the construction of about 50,000 square feet of built-up space at the IT Park coming up at Navalpattu in Tiruchi would be completed by end of October, according to K. N. Nehru, Transport Minister.

Mr. Nehru, who inspected the progress of the construction of the building along with T. Soundiah, Collector, and K. N. Sekaran, MLA, on Tuesday, said the IT Park would be opened in the first week of November.

The built-up area, which would also serve as an incubation centre, is being constructed by the ELCOT at a cost of about Rs.14.50 crore. The building would have all necessary facilities for IT companies.

Work on creating the other necessary infrastructure, including approach roads, was also underway currently.

The IT Park would come up in an area of about 147 acres of land.

Nine companies have already been allotted plots in the IT Park.

City poised for expansion

The boundaries of the Tiruchi Corporation would soon be expanded to include Tiruverambur area also, said K.N.Nehru, Transport Minister here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a function to inaugurate issue of sale deeds to buyers of houses from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board at Navalpattu Anna Nagar on the city outskirts, Mr.Nehru also disclosed that a proposal for building a new by-pass road from Tiruverambur to the Tiruchi-Chennai highway via Vengur and Natarajapuram has been forwarded to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for financial assistance.

Another by-pass road linking the Tiruchi-Thanjavur, Tiruchi-Pudukottai and Tiruchi-Madurai highways has already been sanctioned, he said, highlighting the various development measures taken up in the city. About Rs.1,000 crore worth development projects have been sanctioned for Tiruchi over the past four years.

ELCOT sure of leasing out entire IT Park space

ELCOT hopes to complete its 50,000 sq feet building at Navalpattu IT Park by September-October.

The building will have a capacity to accommodate 500 professionals of smaller companies to whom the space will be leased out. The smaller companies will operate from the building till they construct their own buildings, official sources said.

Though the building is scheduled for completion by November, the ELCOT has expedited the process since some start-up companies are already prepared to commence their operations, it is learnt. “Probably the entire 50,000 sq feet space will be leased out to the existing allottees,” informed sources said. Nine bigger companies that have so far been allotted land in the IT Park for constructing their own buildings are expected to start their works by June-July. As per the ELCOT norms, they will have to commence operations within two years from the date they take delivery of the land. The ELCOT is expected to make another EOI (expression of interest) notification for accommodating more such companies within a couple of months. The land will be delivered to the nine companies and the new applicants once the on-going infrastructure works are completed. Works on construction of compound wall, culverts, and six-lane road of 45 metre breadth are in full swing.
