Tiruchi airport to be partially privatised

The Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to partially privatise non-metro airports, according to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel who visited Chennai on July 5,2009.
Under this arrangement, Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said other than the terminal buildings, the operational area and the runway, areas including car parking, courier and cargo facilities would be handed over to private companies under Private-Public Partnership arrangements. The AAI would lease the land to the private operator and the operator would pay the AAI a licence fee.

The above is a good news for Trichy since private firms are purely profit oriented and would have committed expectations from Govt. Though this is a very early start for what is to come, the background of the private party taking this opportunity would be a good indicator for the underlying potential of the Trichy airport developments.
